Great Central Reunification usually means constructing a new chain of bridges through Loughborough. Equally important, of course, is cooperation of people from both north and south.  To further that end, our friends in S&T south of Loughborough invited a group over for a behind-the scenes tour of their signalling installations.

Starting at Loughborough Central, our train made a special request stop at Swithland Sidings, where we climbed out of the guard's compartment, and were met by the Chief Mouser. He showed us the signalbox, relay room, and stores.  The 'box there, controlling a double track main line, two passing loops, a goods yard and junction must be one of the best in preservation. 

A short walk down to Rothley found us in Ellis' Tea Rooms, and then at the ground frame at the south end of the station. There, the relocation of equipment and services for the new siding layout is largely complete, and far more extensive that it looks on the surface!

The train took us up to Belgrave, and back again to Quorn to see the signalbox, turntable, and a quick visit to the Wagon & Wagon department. There was even a chance for a quick tour of Test Car 2 before catching a the 1615 back to Loughborough
