Another week at Hotchley Hill, and more floor-related wordplay!
This time, we started by fit the short joists behind into place. These were pre-cut to fit - but like all the best-laid plans, that didn't exactly work out. the building is (alas) not square or straight, and so a number of these required shortening by several millimeters to fit, and a few more mm planing off the bottom to rest level with the rest of the woodwork.
That organised, we turned all hands to cutting floorboards to length, and securing them in place. In fact, we managed to get all full-width boards for the centre section cut and placed. This gave us the highly satisfying view of a clean, continuous floor, where previously we had only had hacks, patches, and fire damage.
We didn't quite have time to finish fastening the boards down - nor to make the closure pieces that fit up to the edges. That will be next week's job.
