Well, we're back, though not with anything very exciting.
A scouting mission to HH last week revealed that trespassers had reduced several yards of fence beside the building to a single wire. A wire supported by a single rotten post, or as they say in industry, a "Life-Expired Asset". There's no question that the section needs re-fencing properly. That's not really an S&T job, but it would be quite irresponsible to leave the railway wide open to vandals, dog-walkers and curious horses.
We scraped the ice off some scrap timber and took it down to site. We dragged the remains of the old fence out of the mud, and set about trying to redeem our proverbial sow's ear. Meanwhile, two of those tresspassers wandered up the four-foot towards us. One with a small dog, another wearing headphones! Warning such people off the line is not fun.
Having erected at least a passable simulacrum of a fence, we had a look at some rather battered stop boards that will need fixing. Another unglamorous job, but equally necessary.
