Section token in hand, the team headed down to Rushcliffe Halt for a job we planned a couple of weeks ago. Viz, putting the 'down' distant board, and its AWS magnet in the right places. Previously, the distant board was the distance from the stop board that the magnet should be from the distant, and the magnet was closer to the stop board than it should be to the distant on the opposite side. Work that one out!
A good showing, small teams, and the right tools made short work of the matter. One group went on ahead to dig a footing for the sign, while the rest uprooted it, and unscrewed the magnet and its ramps. This was all piled onto the p-way trolley, and rolled down to milepost 88, to be screwed down again. We were done by midday.
Back at base, one group was busy repairing the trailer that matches our Personnel Carrier. So far, this has involved stripping the rotten wood from the steel frame, removing most of the paint, fabricating various new parts, and adding reinforcement in places where the rotten wood had been subject to unnecessary stress.
Over on the station, that kit of parts which has been gathering on our workbench is now up and mounted on the small bracket, ready to signal locomotives out of the platform 1 headshunt. This is one of those jobs where (like so many) if it seems quick and easy on the day, its due to a great deal of preparation beforehand. Most things we install reach us as rusty junk.
