This Saturday saw a particularly impressive (or overkill, depending on your viewpoint?) parade of traction running past the signalbox, as we carried on with the now-routine ditch-digging. While working close to the line does afford excellent views of traffic, the use of the 'down' side of the loop does demand special caution if going in front of the building. Happily, we have plenty to do that's safely out-of-the-way.

The soil in the old ditch yielded its usual array of mundane and bizarre objects, including this week:
- Another bicycle lamp, a chain-ring and brake-callipers
- A pair of old boots
- Half-a-dozen more bottles
- Miscellaneous jars and aluminium cans
- More bits of battery, and electrical fittings

Upstairs, meanwhile, we made a start on priming the WC window frame, thanks to a volunteer at Ruddington 'lending' us a can of something suitable for the galvanised surface. That done, we moved-on to rubbing-down the southern door of the operating floor. This included chipping away the last remnants of the original plaster, which seems to have been keeping the steelwork damp.

Below that, the junk collection saw more tidying, and a few of the least-interesting items moved round to the battery room for disposal. Said room has been growing increasingly full of rubbish that even the most ardent collector would have no interest in. We filled six large bin-bags with it today, and that's less than half of the total volume awaiting removal! The new van is certainly making itself useful.

We are all still mystified as to why anyone (let alone three different people) would choose to throw their old shoes down the bank, when more convenient methods of disposal must have been available. Any ideas?
