We started by finishing off work on the ‘B’ end of the double slip at Ruddington, removing all the crank pins, cleaning out old grease (in same cases, more like mud), and replacing any that were too badly worn. We noted one of the greasing points had been unusually extended with a short brass tube (illustrated)
That done, we headed down to Fifty Steps (in two cars) to find some more cable troughs for the headshunt area at Ruddington Fields station. We cut away the brambles, and loaded up the trailer for the trip back to base. Once there, we unloaded onto a p-way trolley, and took the concrete sections to roughly where they need to be installed. Next week, weather and numbers permitting, we’ll see about digging them in.
