We had another good turnout this Saturday, and tackled two substantial jobs in parallel.
On one side of the site, a chamber needed to be dug out between the release road and platform two. This links a new length of troughing to buried ducts, which will carry our cables around the area. We were a bit wary of this job, as it wasn't clear how stable the ground would be, or how much trouble Friday's rain would cause. In the event, the contingent were able to dig vertically down without any issues. Clay has its advantages! The concrete pour to turn our hole into a proper chamber is lined-up for the coming weeks, so we'll have another job ticked-off in the area.
Over in the yard, another group set about a major bit of stores reorganisation. We recently purchased three bays of pallet-racking at a bargain, to fit into one of our containers. There has been a frankly-embarrassing heap of clamp-lock point machine parts sitting on the floor of our container for years. Next to it have been numerous nuts, bolts and telephones in bent filing cabinets that jam if you look at them funny. All that had to come out, yielding a rare view of empty space in our storage facilities. This was short-lived, of course, as we erected the frames of new racking, cut down to fit under the roof, and immediately stacked them with boxes of parts.
Everything worth keeping was moved back in, and the junk - soggy cardboard boxes and mangled steel cabinets - was disposed-of. This left us with a haphazard stack of boxes on the floor, and an empty (good) filing cabinet - so we're not done yet. To be continued...
Next week, we're planning to get a day in at Hotchley Hill, the first since the November 'lockdown', for a few odd jobs. We have made a quick inspection, and no more horrors have befallen the box. However, the operating floor is still wide open! To fix that, we are now asking those of you who can to consider sponsoring a pane of new vandal-proof polycarbonate glazing. Many thanks, as always, to everyone who has already contributed to the project. It makes a huge difference.
